Announcing DataCite DOI Fabrica

Today DataCite is launching DOI Fabrica, the next generation of DataCite's DOI registration service, replacing the Metadata Store (MDS). This is the biggest and most important product release DataCite has done in many years, and the result of nine months of hard work by the entire DataCite team. DOI registration is the core service that DataCite is providing to its members and the data centers they work with.

Announcing InvenioRDM Starter Beta

Today I am happy to announce the first beta release of InvenioRDM Starter. InvenioRDM is an open source repository management platform developed by more than 25 organizations coordinated by CERN. The release of the next major version (v12.0) will happen in a few weeks, with the second release candidate released on May 31st. InvenioRDM Starter aims to make installing InvenioRDM easy via a prebuilt Docker image and Docker Compose file.

Identifying Barriers to Adoption for Rust through Online Discourse

Rust is a low-level programming language known for its unique approach to memory-safe systems programming and for its steep learning curve. To understand what makes Rust difficult to adopt, we surveyed the top Reddit and Hacker News posts and comments about Rust; from these online discussions, we identified three hypotheses about Rust's barriers to adoption. We found that certain key features, idioms, and integration patterns were not easily accessible to new users.
