The theta series of the two unimodular even positive definite lattices of rank 16 are known to be linearly dependent in degree at most 3 and linearly independent in degree 4. In this paper we consider the next case of the 24 Niemeier lattices of rank 24. The associated theta series are linearly dependent in degree at most 11 and linearly independent in degree 12. The resulting Siegel cusp form of degree 12 and weight 12 is a Hecke eigenform which seems to have interesting properties.

We consider the spectrum of BPS states of the heterotic sigma model with $(0,8)$ supersymmetry and $T^8$ target, as well as its second-quantized counterpart. We show that the counting function for such states is intimately related to Borcherds' automorphic form $Φ_{12}$, a modular form which exhibits automorphy for $O(2,26;{\mathbb Z})$. We comment on possible implications for Umbral moonshine and theories of AdS$_3$ gravity.

After some introductory comments relating to antiferromagnetism of crystalline O_2, and brief remarks on the geometry of ozone, Hartree-Fock (HF) theory plus second-order Moller-Plesset (MP2) corrections are used to predict the nuclear structure of low-lying isomers of free-space O_n clusters, for n=6, 8, and 12. The equilibrium nuclear-nuclear potential energy is also discussed in relation to the number n of oxygen atoms in the cluster.
