Ultrabroadband Polarization Insensitive Hybrid using Multiplane Light Conversion

We designed, fabricated and tested an optical hybrid that supports an octave of bandwidth (900-1800 nm) and below 4-dB insertion loss using multiplane light conversion. Measured phase errors are below 3-degree across a measurement bandwidth of 390 nm.

Bounds on heavy sterile neutrinos revisited

We revise the bounds on heavy sterile neutrinos, especially in the case of their mixing with muon neutrinos in the charged current. We summarize the present experimental limits, and we reanalyze the existing data from the accelerator neutrino experiments and from Super-Kamiokande to set new bounds on a heavy sterile neutrino in the range of masses from 8 MeV to 390 MeV. We also discuss how the future accelerator neutrino experiments can improve the present limits.

Performance Results of the AMS-01 Aerogel Threshold Cherenkov

The Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) was flown in june 1998 on board of the space shuttle Discovery (flight STS-91) at an altitude ranging between 320 and 390 km. This preliminary version of AMS included an Aerogel Threshold Cherenkov detector (ATC) to separate antiprotons from electron background, for momenta less than 3.5 GeV/c. In this paper, the design and physical principles of ATC will be discussed briefly, then the performance results of the ATC will be presented.

New results from the B factories Belle and BaBar

The BELLE detector has already accumulated e^+ e^- collision data at the KEKB-collider corresponding to 600 fb^-1. BaBar has accumulated data of approximately 390 fb^-1 at PEP-II. Both are running on asymmetric energy e^+ e^- colliders at the Upsilon(4S) energy. The paper selects important results from both experiments with the emphasis on CP violation in B meson decays and its implications for the Unitarity Triangle.

The Innsbruck quantum teleportation experimental scheme can be modified to the unconditional one

We show that the Innsbruck quantum teleportation experiment(Bouwmeester D et al, Nature 390, 575(1997)) can be modified by using the polarized beam splitter. In this modified scheme, Bob does not have to do any meassurement and an unknown state from Victor can be verified to be teleported to Bob from Alice by the currently exisiting technology, i.e., by using the normal photon detectors which do not distinguish one photon and two photons.
