We report the draft genome sequence of Achromobacter arsenitoxydans SY8, the first reported arsenite-oxidizing bacterium belonging to the genus Achromobacter and containing a genomic arsenic island, an intact type III secretion system, and multiple metal(loid) transporters. The genome may be helpful to explore the mechanisms intertwining metal(loid) resistance and pathogenicity.

Abstract Fmoc-protected hydrophilic amino acids were prepared and incorporated into peptide nucleic acid (PNA). N- and C-terminal modification of PNA did not affect its ability to hybridize to complementary nucleic acid targets as determined by dot blot, PNA-FISH and Tm experiments. The compounds allowed us to prepare several probes which were previously impossible to make, purify or use due to limited aqueous solubility or self-aggregation.

Abstract Background Erwinia pyrifoliae is a newly described necrotrophic pathogen, which causes fire blight on Asian (Nashi) pear and is geographically restricted to Eastern Asia. Relatively little is known about its genetics compared to the closely related main fire blight pathogen E. amylovora.
